Our Story

Locally Rooted and Family Owned

Insight Recovery Centers was founded to change the way care is delivered, locally rooted, family-owned, and led by clinicians who believe recovery should be integrated, flexible, and realistic. If you’re looking for treatment that reflects those values, we invite you to take the next step by connecting with our admissions team.

Mission

Our mission is restoring balance to those affected by substance use and mental health disorders through evidence-based outpatient treatment.

Vision

To create an environment where adults and their families have seamless access to integrated, high-quality behavioral health care, delivered by experienced professionals who combine clinical expertise with genuine connection. Our vision is a system of care that goes beyond symptoms, strengthens support networks, builds resilience, and improves overall quality of life for the people we serve.

Core Values

Ethical Integrity

We hold ourselves accountable to the highest professional and clinical standards. Every decision is guided by honesty, transparency, and a commitment to doing what is best for clients and their families. Ethical integrity shapes not only how we deliver care, but also how we engage with colleagues, the community, and one another.

Lifelong Learning

We believe effective care requires continual growth. Our clinicians pursue ongoing education, training, and self-reflection to remain current with the best evidence-based practices. By committing to lifelong learning, we ensure that the treatment we provide reflects both clinical expertise and the evolving needs of those we serve.

Collaboration

Recovery is strengthened when care is coordinated. We actively collaborate with physicians, therapists, schools, and community professionals to support clients with a unified approach. This commitment to collaboration ensures continuity, reduces fragmentation, and reinforces progress across every part of a client’s life.

Our Story

The Beginning

In 2001, Cyndi Turner, LCSW, LSATP, MAC, and Craig James, LCSW, LSATP, MAC began working together. Known as “rogue therapists,” they embraced Motivational Interviewing and Harm Reduction Psychotherapy years before these approaches gained acceptance, and their clients thrived.

Building a New Model of Care

By 2006, they had developed the Dual Diagnosis Recovery Program©, designed for individuals with both substance use and mental health challenges. Still, they recognized Northern Virginians were navigating a broken system: long waitlists, fragmented services, and providers who rarely communicated.

Determined to change this, they put their homes up as collateral, assembled a team of seasoned therapists, and in 2015 opened Insight Into Action Therapy, a single practice offering coordinated, high-quality behavioral health care.

Expanding Services

Over time, Insight grew to include psychological testing, medication management, Medication-Assisted Treatment, and a full range of therapy services. The model ensured clients and families could access integrated care under one roof.

Founding Insight Recovery Centers

In 2018, seeing limited options for people with moderate to severe Substance use disorders, they launched Insight Recovery Centers. This new program personalized treatment for the full spectrum of substance use, free from the financial motives that often shaped the field.

Today

For more than two decades, Cyndi and Craig’s team has helped thousands of families restore balance and stability. Insight Recovery Centers continues to provide a continuum of care for individuals and families, proudly LGBTQ+ friendly and welcoming to all who seek meaningful change.
