Angie Harris is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP) and Master Addiction Counselor (MAC). In 2018, Angie, along with Cyndi Turner and Craig James wanted to provide an innovative and clinically sound treatment program to northern Virginia and established Insight Recovery Centers. With more than 14 years of experience working in the behavioral health field, she brings an array of clinical and business expertise as Chief Administrative Officer at Insight Recovery Centers. Her professional background includes direct clinical and supervisory positions as well as program management and business development positions within behavioral health.
Angie has experience working along a full continuum of treatment, ranging from facility-based treatment, to outpatient office-based clinical therapy, to home-based counseling in the community. She has worked with children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric clients in the private and public sector, and has established strong professional relationships with other providers in the community. She has demonstrated a strong knowledge of community resources and stakeholders which serves as an asset for families looking for appropriate treatment recommendations.
Her clinical approach focuses on client strengths, working in collaboration with clients to identify goals through a solution-focused lens, and implementing a variety of theoretical approaches to develop person-centered treatment. Angie is passionate about working with others to find hope in their journey and identify solutions to support their ideal wellness.
In addition to a background in providing individual, family, and group therapy for general mental health issues such as: Perinatal Mood Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Dual Diagnosis, ADHD, Psychotic Disorders, trauma, and abuse, Angie is certified in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR-T) and utilizes DBT skill-building in her work with clients. She also has extensive experience working with adolescents and adults struggling with Substance Use Disorders. She provides assessments for court-involved individuals and is highly trained in level of care placement evaluations for treatment. She utilizes a Harm Reduction approach for Alcohol Moderation Management when appropriate. She is a trained SMART Recovery© facilitator and incorporates SMART tools and other alternatives to traditional 12-step models.
Angie is a certified pre-screener in the State of Virginia and has experience in mental health emergency services. Angie has provided suicide prevention programming through The Jason Foundation, introducing early intervention services aimed at increasing awareness of the silent epidemic of youth suicide. She is a strong supporter of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and peer support systems.
She earned her first Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from Marymount University and her second Master’s degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.
